Statistics in academic edition is neither easy nor pleasant, that is why the aversion of the students to this field of knowledge. University teachers are grappling with the barrier which is difficult to overcome. Success is not easy to be achieved. Professor Krzysztof Górniak, who was clenching his teeth many times trying to explain statistics, showed one of the ways to achieve it: more practice, less theory. He restricted the formulas to the minimum, he removed complicated proof, in place of it he presented application of the statistical methods on the student-friendly examples.

'' Statistics Taught through Fiction’- the title by all means misleading, because on this ground the Reader can think that he’s holding in his hands the next boring standard textbook which is trying to introduce in the classic form the intricacies of statistics-the specters of majority of people. However, the Table of Contents, is beginning to arouse astonishment and interest-completely unconventional formula. Then, what will be next? And later, it is even much better, more engaging, and, contrary to the title, interesting, but also professional. The book, instead of boring, engrosses and before the reader knows it ( and it absorbs so much that there is no time for knowing), he almost finishes. Fantasy and unabashed author’s imagination are the main assets of the study. Treating the subject perversely, turnings of the action ( yes, what you are reading is right-the ACTION)-it is, for sure, a real sensation in the work dealing with statistics. Finally, the intrigues and subtexts provide the attraction for the story. Cleverly and with intuition slipped stories are becoming for the sensitive reader less painful and discouraging as it could happen in the classic formula of academic textbook. Great finesse and well-suited examples of applying statistics and its visualization decide about the value of the book. Much could be written in this sprit, but the most interesting for the reader is being acquainted with the book, not with the opinion about it. Good reading then…I recommend.
